 Hello from High Country Angler. The summer fishing has been nothing short of fantastic. Every trip has been great with high productivity. The Watauga River is definitely the best river for trout fishing in the East and could compete with the western rivers.
I highly recommend the float trip on this river. There are sporadic hatches of caddis, mayflys and crane flies. The blue winged olives and midges have been coming off pretty steady with some dry fly opportunities. We have had terrific success on small nymphs and a dry fly/dropper rigs. This is a year round fishery that produces day in and day out so anytime to go is a good time to go. The temperatures have been nice and cool with the signs of fall around the corner. I still have plenty of dates open for September into the winter and would love to have you up. Remember, we can accommodate group trips as well.
