Fishing Trips Spring 2010

spring 2010 054The Spring fishing in East Tennessee has been great and will continue throughout the summer.  Some folks have the misconception that summertime is not a good time to go trout fishing.  That is far from the truth, especially on these waters that are tailwaters(rivers below mountain lakes that are dammed).  The Watauga and South Holston Rivers are both tailwaters that keep a constant cold water temperature, around 45 degrees-60 degrees depending on where you are located on the river.  Tennessee Valley Authority draws the water for electricity and to keep optimal lake levels.  Watauga Lake and South Holston Lake are both 300 feet deep and very cold.  This makes for ideal water temperatures that trout like and which they thrive.  There are bugs coming off pretty much all the time and fish can be caught throughout the entire day.  The mountains are also a nice place to get a little cooler air temperatures in the summer and makes for a nice vacation.  The float trip is the best way to cover water and maximize your catch rate.  Floating is great for beginners and favored by the advanced.  We also have a high success rate with kids on these trips.  This is a trip that you should experience and know you will have a great time.  Half day trips are around 4 hours with a light lunch and the full day trips are a 7-8 hour day with a nice stream side lunch.  I still have dates open towards the end of June and throughout the summer.  Give me a call or email and book your trip so we can go catch some trout.  Thank you for all the great company this spring and look forward to our fishing trips in the future.  Be sure to check out all the pictures of our trips this spring at http://www.highcountryangler.com/gallery/east-tennessee-fly-fishing-spring-2010/.  Thank you and have a great day.

Sincerely,
Evan Dowdy
